Packing Up the Life in the SF Bay Area
The San Francisco Bay Area is where I have lived for the past 47 years since I moved to San Jose in 1978.
Over the last 47 years, I have lived in Maui, Hawaii, and Schaumburg, Illinois, but I have always had my heart in the SF Bay Area as it is my hometown.
A year ago, I met a man who became my life partner. In 2022, his wife of 52 years passed away, and he’s thinking about moving near his daughter and her family in Poway, about 15 miles north of San Diego. Since I always enjoyed visitinh San Diego, I encouraged him to make the move. He and I started looking into the real estate market in the areas of San Diego he liked.
In late January this year, he sold his house in Redwood City and bought a partially updated charming house in the Clairemont area of San Diego.
The move from the house where he and his late wife lived for 47 years and raised three children was a big challenge for him. He only had a month to wrap up and pack everything into six U-Haul boxes. He basically packed up the whole entire house save a few furniture pieces.
I also ended the lease for my apartment in San Jose early to move with him to San Diego in mid-February.

Moving Along
While my partner shipped most of his belongings in the U-Haul Boxes, I rented a 28′ truck to pack and move my belongings. My partner drove the truck.
