One of the Main Attractions in Chofu City
My niece asked me where I wanted to go on Saturday during my stay in Chofu City, Tokyo, Japan, and I suggested Jindai Botanical Garden. The beautiful expansive park-like garden was the perfect spot for a picnic with my niece, her husband, and their three-year-old son.

Sitting right next to Jindaiji Temple, the Jindai Botanical Garden (神代植物公園, Jindai shokubutsu kōen) is at the edge of the Musashino plateau just above Jindaiji Temple in Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan.
It extends across 425,433 square meters, and each of its thirty areas features varieties of one kind of plant. (More on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jindai_Botanical_Garden)
Reasonable Admission
As of January of 2024, admission costs ¥500 ($3.50) for adults, ¥200 ($1.40) for children, and ¥250 ($1.75) for seniors.
My niece’s husband drove us there in his van, and it took about 20 minutes from where I was staying. When they came to pick me up from my place, I was holding a plastic cup of cold drink in my hand. When my little grand nephew saw that, he reached out to pull down the cup holder in front of my seat so I could place my cup in it. I was amazed at how observant and considerate he is at his age.
Picnic near the giant pampas grass
Following our walk around the garden, we decided to have our picnic on the lawn near the giant pampas grass (Look at the size of it in the photo!). I loved it when my grandnephew generously shared his favorite food with me.
This visit to Jindai Botanical Garden was by far the most memorable part of my trip to Tokyo last October.
